Henrique Barros (MD, PhD) is the President of the Institute of Public Health, University of Porto, Portugal, and a Full Professor of Epidemiology at Medical School of Porto University, Portugal. Currently, he is member of the Executive Commission of the National Ethical Committee for Clinical Investigation (CEIC) and of the Medical Sciences (MED) Scientific Committee of Science Europe. He is President of Portuguese Association of Epidemiology (2013-15), and President-Elect of the International Epidemiological Association (2014-17). He launched the three Portuguese population-based cohorts: Generation 21, EPITeen and EPIPorto. Recently, his main research interest is on perinatal and pediatric epidemiology focusing on the processes that operate in health and wellbeing during lifespan, particularly since the early stages of life.
